LEED
design charettes established the initial “green” strategy
for the Forsyth YMCA, to assure team
coordination from concept throughout final construction.
Grey
water collected from showers and pool is treated
and used for irrigation and toilets
throughout the
building, recycling over 415,000 gallons per year.
Other water saving measures conserve another 130,000
gallons. Energy
strategies such as
high performance glazing
save over 396,000 kilowatt hours of energy per
year.
This
project diverted over 68% of construction waste
as recycled material, and over 18%
of the
building was constructed from recycled building
materials such as structural
steel, concrete, concrete masonry units, rubber
flooring and carpet.
